BikePart is a South African motorcycle parts marketplace. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

2. Information We Collect

  • Account information: Name, email address, and password (stored securely via Supabase Auth).
  • Seller profile: Display name, province, phone number (for verification), and subscription status.
  • Listing content: Part descriptions, photos, pricing, and vehicle compatibility data you provide.
  • Payment information: We do not store card details. Payments are processed by PayFast under their own privacy policy.
  • Usage data: Page views, listing views, and basic analytics collected anonymously.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To operate and maintain your account and listings.
  • To process subscription payments via PayFast.
  • To send transactional emails (listing notifications, offer alerts, expiry reminders) via Resend.
  • To verify seller identity and prevent fraud.
  • To resolve disputes between users.
  • To improve the platform based on usage patterns.

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

  • Supabase: Database and authentication infrastructure (servers in EU/US with GDPR compliance).
  • PayFast: Payment processing for subscriptions.
  • Resend: Transactional email delivery.
  • Vercel: Hosting infrastructure.

Your contact details (first name, email) are shared with other users only when you explicitly initiate contact through the “I'm Interested” or offer system.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data is removed within 30 days. Listing data may be retained in anonymised form for analytics purposes.

7. Your Rights (POPIA)

Under POPIA, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate information.
